CMB Continues The Monitoring Process Of The Health Education Project


The CMB Training Center continues to be involved in the monitoring of the piloting phase of the Health Education
Project that is currently being implemented in colleges and vocational schools across Moldova. During March
and April, there have been a number of monitoring visits, as teachers continue to share the experience of piloting
the curriculum for the optional “Decisions for a healthy lifestyle” course. The progress of the course can be

CMB partcipates in the development of Moldova’s 2020 Digital Strategy


The CMB Training Center, in partnership with the Moldovan Ministry of Information and Technology, conducted
the first public consultation meeting regarding the draft strategy for developing Moldova’s information society, “eMoldova 2020.”
The event was attended by representatives of relevant public institutions, development partners, academia, and civic
society representatives. CMB Staff members Veronica Cretu and Vadim Traci helped to facilitate the event, and as a result, ideas for the vision statement of the strategy were collected from participants.

CMB In The National Council For Participation 2012-2013


The CMB Training Center is happy to announce that we have joined the National Council for Participation. CMB
participated in a meeting on Tuesday, March 20th that was attended by Mr. Vladimir Filat, the Prime Minister of
Moldova, members of the National Council for Participation (NCP) in office from 2009 to 2011, and the new NCP
members for 2012-2013. This was a special meeting because it was attended by both former members of the NCP, as
well as those who were elected for the next term. The CMB Training Center will play an active role in the NCP, and
will coordinate the group on Open Government, e-transformation, and ICT for development.

Update! CMB Begins the Monitoring and Evaluation Process of the Health Education Project


CMB staff members have officially begun the monitoring and evaluation process of  the Decisions for a Healthy Life Style course that is currently being implemented in 97 colleges and vocational schools across Moldova.  The course has been going on for over 6 weeks and now it is time to see how everyone is progressing.  CMB is heavily involved in this process, and have recently taken part in several site visits to schools throughout Moldova to witness the class being taught.  CMB team members, along   with representatives from the Ministry of Education and donor organization UCIMP, will participate in 35 site visits from now until the course concludes in May.

Another significant event that recently occurred as part of the monitoring and evaluation of the Health Education Project was a follow-up conference that took place on Friday, February 17th.  This half-way conference was a gathering of 34 teachers who are currently teaching the Decisions for a Healthy Life Style course.  The conference served as an open forum for the teachers to share their experiences of the course so far, and to exchange ideas on how to make improvements.

CMB Participates in IREX Moldova Global Libraries Program Meeting

The “CMB” Training Center reprezentatives Veronica Cretu and Heath Stenberg, participated today  in an open discussion meeting hosted by IREX regarding their Global Libraries Program that will come to Moldova in 2012.  Directors from the IREX Global Libraries Programs in Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine lead the discussion on libraries and open government with local experts in E Government from Moldova.  The meeting granted the participants the opportunity to discuss the ongoing initiatives and trends in Moldova and the wider region that link library development and open government technologies and concepts.  The exchange of ideas between the participants resulted in some great discussions and helped to assist IREX is planning their implementation strategy for the Global Libraries Program in Moldova in 2012.  “CMB” looks forward to being part of the E-Government movement in Moldova in the future.

“Decisions for a healthy life style” – piloting has started!!!


“CMB” Training Center has started the piloting phase of the optional course “Decisions for a healthy life” at the national scale, in all vocational schools and colleges of the country!

One of the first institutions that has already started piloting the course this week is the “Rahmaninov” high school. Both students in intervention groups and control groups have completed the initial survey for assessing their knowledge, skills and attitudes and only by completing it they have already demonstrated interest and motivation for this course.

Official start of piloting phase will be next week, starting th January 16, 2012 and will take place in all vocational schools and colleges from Moldova.  Piloting phase will end in May, and monitoring of the piloting of the curriculum for the optional course “Decisions for a healthy life” will be done in close partnership with the Ministry of Education. During the piloting phase we will into both contents proposed for the Teachers’ Guidebook and for the Students’ Guidebook. In June 2012, we plan to publish the final version of these resources materials, based on the feedback gained from both teachers and students.

We expect about 3500 students taking the course as intervention group, and about 3000 students being as control group.

CMB Presents at the Moldova National HIV/AIDS Conference


On December 5th, 2011 CMB Training Center President Veronica Creţu gave a presentation at the Moldova National HIV/AIDS Conference.  The annual conference brings together government representatives, local NGO leaders, health experts, and advocates that are dedicated toward HIV/AIDS related causes.  Veronica Creţu spoke to an audience about the CMB, Moldovan Ministry of Health, and UCIMP Health Education Project.  The presentation covered the process of the Decisions for a Healthy Life Style course that will be taught in 97 colleges and vocational schools in Moldova starting in January of 2012.  The CMB Training Center is currently in the process of training 113 teachers throughout Moldova to teach the course.  The audience was very receptive and shared our excitement for the project.  CMB was honored to be a part of this important conference and thanks everyone who was in attendance.

CMB Meets with Senior Program Advisor of the USAID Development Grants Program to Discuss NGO Situation in Moldova.


On November 9th, 2011 the CMB Training Center staff had a meeting with Shohreh Kermani-Peterson, the Senior Program Advisor for the USAID Development Grants Program.  The Development Grants Program is a USAID initiative that aims to create new partnerships between USAID and NGOs that have had limited or no prior funding from and experience working directly with USAID. A key goal of the DGP is to expand USAID’s NGO network of development partners and provide capacity building support to the new partners. In doing so, USAID will enable a wider range of partners to better meet their constituents needs and contribute to development outcomes.

Mrs. Kermani-Peterson has been on a month-long trip visiting NGO’s throughout several countries in Eastern Europe to evaluate what changes and improvements can be made in the Development Grants Program to make it more adaptable in host nations.  A significant part of this process has involved visiting local NGO’s and asking them how they perceive the overall capacity of NGO’s to be in their country.  CMB was honored to be one of the NGO’s that was visited in the USAID’s visit to Moldova.

CMB staff members gave a NGO assessment presentation and had a great discussion about the NGO environment here in Moldova with the DGP Program Advisor.  The exchange of ideas was beneficial for both sides.  CMB was delighted to assist USAID its evaluation of the Development Grants Program, and looks forward to continuing to contribute to the strengthening of the Moldova NGO sector in the future.

Teacher Trainings Continue For The Decisions For A Healthy Life Style Health Education Project

The second day of teacher trainings for the Decisions for a Healthy Life Style health education project continued at the Villa Verde Hotel in Chisinau.  The 26 teachers who are participating in the first round of trainings had a very busy and productive day.  The day started with national experts in sexually transmitted diseases and drug and alcohol abuse holding workshops for the participants.  The experts facilitated several interactive activities and set aside time for a question and answer session.  After the experts shared their knowledge, the CMB staff shared a step by step process of how to facilitate lessons in these subjects following the ERRE model.

CMB Begins First Day of Teacher Trainings For The Decisions For A Healthy Life Style Health Education Project


On November 16th, 2011 the CMB Training Center, in partnership with the Moldova Ministry of Education and UCIMP began the first phase of teacher training for the Decisions for a Healthy Life Style health education project.  26 teachers from different regions of Moldova began their quest towards bringing health education to Moldovan schools.  This is the first of four seminars that will take place over the next month, which will train a total of 113 teachers to teach the Decisions for a Healthy Life Style curriculum in 97 colleges and vocational schools throughout Moldova starting in January of 2012.
