Critical Thinking for Development

Goal of the “Critical Thinking for Development” project, supported by the Education Support Initiative, Open Society Institute, New York

The goal of this project is to contribute to sustainability of the Critical Thinking Methodology through elaborating a set of modules aimed at supporting the further dissemination of the CT methodology by trainers from both in-service teacher training institutes as well as from NGOs who deliver training services based on CT Methodology.

As an outcome there will be more diverse beneficiaries/target groups, as well as the quality of the services delivered will increase.

The elaborated modules will also be aiming at Critical Thinking Program trainers. Each module will present a detailed description of a training program (varying from 16 to 24 hours per training) and focused on one CT related topic/theme. The description of each module will be in form of a Guidebook, and as a result, the guidebooks elaborated as part of this project will serve as main support for dissemination of experiences in new countries of the program, as well as in supporting the continuous teacher training delivery by in-service centers around the world.

The guidebooks with their detailed descriptions will assure the minimum quality/standards for a training activity in which CT methodology is at core. Mainly this project is going to fill the gap provoked by the ‘cascade model’ for teacher training.

Main Objectives of the project

1. Documentation of the experiences of the Moldova Critical Thinking Trainers (both national and international experience);
2. Elaboration and dissemination of a set of Guidebooks for trainers from different educational institutions as well as non-governmental organizations worldwide;
3. Dissemination of Critical Thinking Methodology for other target groups (along with teachers), as well as assuring minimum quality standards in the implementation of the Critical Thinking Methodology in training programs.

Project deliverables: A set of guidebooks which can be used by individual trainers and organizations which are implementing the Critical Thinking methodology in their respective countries.

Project implementation dates: December 2010 – September 2011.
