Protection of Personal Data in Moldova

April 5, 2011

Ministry of Information Technology and Communications of the Republic of Moldova, in collaboration with “CMB” Training Center, are organizing a workshop on “Protection of personal data in the Republic of Moldova” on April 7th, 2011.

The main objective of this event is to raise awareness amongst workshop participants vis-à-vis the most important aspects related to protection of personal data in Moldova: user’s consent and information, users’ rights and minimum security measures for personal data protection. Here is the Agenda for the event.

This workshop is organized under the auspices of EuroDIG 2011 (http://www.eurodig.org/) – the Pan-European dialogue on Internet governance (EuroDIG) is an open platform for informal and inclusive discussion and exchange on public policy issues related to Internet Governance (IG) between stakeholders from all over Europe.

Similarly to the previous editions of EuroDIG, this year, the Agenda also includes several important aspects related to Internet Governance, but not limited to National platforms for Internet Governance: capacity building, Enhancing transparency in Internet Governance, develop a clear definition of IG including the role of all Internet Stakeholders, privacy and data protection, E-participation and development, Critical Internet Resources, Cyber security, Freedom of expression, Digital literacy, etc.

EuroDIG 2011 edition will take place in Belgrade, Serbia during May 30-31st, and Moldova is participating remotely, almost 2 months ahead of the event in Serbia, due to local possibilities and high motivation to discuss this subject matter.  There will be a report and a video from Moldova workshop shared with experts and presenters of the similar workshop at EuroDIG in Belgrade.

NOTE: The 2010 EuroDIG event took place in Madrid, Spain and it was the first time that Moldova participated in the event.  Moldova had participated remotely and followed online the discussions of the EuroDIG 2010. Other neighbouring countries who participated online included Romania, Ukraine and Russia.

The focus of the Moldova discussion was child safety and the internet.

To help prepare for the event, CMB Training Center facilitated a workshop entitled “Children and the Internet: Opportunities and Risks, Roles and Responsibilities.” The workshop took place 2 days before the EuroDIG conference and was attended by several ministries, including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Information, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.  Also in attendance were representatives of non-governmental organizations, educational institutions, media, and internet service providers.

Participants in the workshop discussed several issues, including what are the risks, roles and responsibilities associated with the internet and child safety? What are the rights of the children on the internet? Is it necessary to filter or block certain content on the internet when it comes to children? How do we educate and prepare children to cope with the huge flow of information on the internet? What is internet governance related to this issue, and who are the key players?
